Button vs. Button?
« on: May 16, 2004, 06:17:51 pm »
Ok, I'm trying to pick some good buttons and came across these 2 auctions:

Happ Arcade "Authentic": http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13718&item=3292415953&rd=1

Unknown w/Zippy switches: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13718&item=3291792648&rd=1

I'm not sure which to buy, or not buy either. Any tips?

The  second seller, the one with the zippy switch, also carries the Happs buttons.  The price for the Happs is the same as the other seller.  If you need any joysticks, or other stuff,  you can get it all with free shipping.  Thanks for pointing this out, I think I will buy some.  It is a little more expensive than therealbobroberts, but I can use Paypal.

By the way, the zippy switches are from Betson-Imperial.  I've seen the name a few times on these boards, but I have no idea how good their buttons are.

I bought my buttons and switches (and joysticks) from him last week. I don't have any experience with happ buttons but the seller was good and shipped fast.

I installed the buttons/switches a couple of days ago and everything went in fine. They feel good. I bought the switch wrench from him as well and it was nice to have.

One thing I did notice. My  - in progress - Mame machine is a butchered (not by me - at least not at first) Guerrilla War cabinet. The buttons seem to be slightly smaller than the unworn part that was covered by the original buttons. I don't have the original buttons so I can't compare.

I just noticed that these are Happs Competition buttons.  Has anyone used these?  I haven't heard anything about them.

Thanks, Paul

EndTwist,

I have used both the Happ buttons and the Betson/Imperial buttons (the ones with the zippy MS).  Other than the slight P1/P2 graphics difference, the buttons feel and look the same.  On mine, I swapped out my zippy MS with .250 cherry MS.

Thanks,
Todd

Is one or the other more "clicky"? Also - How well do the MS clips hold up well?

I just ordered some of the Competition buttons.  I'll let you know how they are when they come in.  Hopefully this weekend.

Well...I took a zippy and cherry MS out of my supply bin last night and here is what my impressions where.

Noise:  Both about equal.  The Zippy MS is slightly higher pitched IMO.

Actuation Force:  The zippy is slightly more stiff than the cherry MS and requires more pressure (not much).  This could account for the slight noise difference.

As for the buttons, they are great.  The clips are fine and there really is no visible difference between them.
