Need a cab in NorCal
« on: May 16, 2004, 03:42:59 pm »
Okay, my arcade cab deal fell through.  :'( My girlfriend has a coworker whose family owns several vending businesses. I was going to get an old cab that wasn't worth fixing up for pretty cheap, and that meant that I could actually get my machine up and going while balancing school too. You'd think that someone would jump at the chance to get cash for someone else hauling away their junk, but these guys just aren't motivated to make this happen >:(. I keep getting excuses when we are supposed to meet up, and they don't seem to really want to make time for me. I don't have the time or tools to build one, so any one have any leads or one for sale?

How complete of a cab are you looking for?

empty shell? something with working monitor?, etc.....

How much do you want to spend?

What size monitor?

There are a few decent working cabs available on craigslist.org

I have a 19" cab (gutted, and painted) that you can have if you want it.

If interested PM me.

Sorry, I should have been more specific (my girl friend was calling for me to get off the computer). I was going to get an old NBA Jams cab, but not the one with all the light up plastic graphics around the top of the machine. I am looking for a standard early 90's cab.  I don't really like the look of the, what is it, 33" monitors when being so close to them that they are putting in the newer cabs. Plus, I can't afford that size monitor. I plan to use a 27", and since I am going to go with the WG-D9200, I don't need the monitor. Monitor mounting brackets are a plus, if they will work with my selection. A working 2 slot Happ over/under coin door in good condition would be great, but not essential. The artwork is coming off in favor for my own. I don't really care too much about the marquee either, because it is so easy to replace and it will be LED lit. So, gutted is fine. One last thing, I am not interested in any cabinets that have the cabinet sides as part of the CP sides. I will have my own CP w/ box that expands to the width that I want, so a cab that has built in CP sides will hinder this.
Really, what I am looking for is an old Mortal Kombat machine or something similar: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=M&game_id=8753
I like that the corners of the front are replaced with a 45 degree angle. My CP will also be shaped like this, but I could easily pull off the front pannel and replace it with the type that I prefer when I build the CP. I just don't have the time to build the whole cab, but some modifications are possible and expected. Not only do I not have the time for a complete build, but I don't have the time with the necessary tools either. I did this kind of stuff all the time when I was a kid, but now I don't own a set of my own tools and will have to rent them for a single day. So, any cab requiring major modifications is not a viable option.

Any reason you're not building from scratch? Might be worth considering it's not to difficult. I just built mine from scratch with no plans, lol. It's great!

What part of Norther California are you in. I'm in Sacramento and will be picking up some used cabs today. I will look for one with your specs and might get lucky.

How much are you willing to spend?

Thanks

I'm from the Bay Area, but currently go to UC Davis. So, I'm only 15 min from you, depending on where in Sac you are.

The cab that I was going to buy didn't have any damage, monitor mounts, marquee bracket (but no lighting),  rear fixed casters, and adjustable legs in the front.  All this was for $150.
Being a college student, this is pretty much my budget; however, I may be willing to pay more if it included other items I plan to include, like a good condition Happ 2 coin slot over/under coin door.

Since it looks like this deal fell through, I was planning on going to http://www.superauctions.com/ in San Jose to see what they have there.

I am still interested in a cab, so let me know if you find anything ;).

Dude, there are 30,000 undergrads here. The only way I would know them is if they were NPB or psychobio majors. Are they into MAME, etc. too? Check out this thread, http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=18770

I don't know anything about the cab offer other than what you see here. But hey, if this guy is buying a bunch, it wouldn't hurt to check it out.
