Where can I find video game instruction cards?
« on: May 12, 2004, 10:29:57 pm »
pinball ones seem easy to find, but arcade cabs...not so much, probably because so often (if not always) they were screen printed on the monitor glass.

The reason I'm asking is, I've been playing some Rastan lately and I can't figure out how to use the stuff I pick up...like Armor and the necklace and stuff like that...although while typing this post it occured to me that maybe it's automatically used when it's on the bottom of the screen and just everything I pick up is worthless..but what does that stuff do?

I dunno....I don't even know where to post such a stupid question...
Thanks to anyone who can help me.  :)

The game manuals will sometimes help, especially with the more classic games.  KLOV has manuals for many games.  Some manuals will have a "Gameplay" section that explains how to play the game.  Unfortunately, in the case with many jamma conversion games, the manual really only explains how to install the conversion kit, as is the case with Rastan.

A couple good resources for instruction cards are CAGA (http://www.arcadecollecting.com/caga), and Mikesarcade.com.  But again, you are mostly going to find cards the older classic games there.

Also, for gameplay tips, try roger's classic arcade tips and tricks at http://www.classicgaming.com/rcatt/ also try the history.dat and mameinfo.dat files (history.dat available from http://www.arcade-history.com/history_database.php)

There are a few instruction cards at http://www.system16.com/cybercade/index.html

Otherwise, occasionally they'll pop up on E-bay http://collectibles.listings.ebay.com:80/Arcade-Jukeboxes-Pinball_Arcade_W0QQlotrZ1QQsacategoryZ13715QQsocmdZListingItemListQQsocolumnlayoutZ3QQsocustoverrideZ1 although sometime they'll be listed as decal or card or bezel or instructions, etc.

If you are really desparate, you could try to find someone on RGVAC who has the game and see if they can E-mail a pic of the card to you.
