Button Wiring
« on: May 09, 2004, 09:47:02 pm »
After a long break, I am getting back into this cabinet to finish it off.   ;D

I'm down to the last couple of bits & pieces, but one thing I'm unsure on is how to do the following.  I have 4 buttons that need to act as Player 1's button 1 (as well as 4 buttons each for button 2 & 3).

How do I go about wiring these to my I-Pac?  I'm sure I don't chain them like the ground wires, so how can I get all 4 wires into the 1 point?

Thanks,

SalmonKing.

Just shove them all in there or best method is to use a terminal strip, 4 wires in, 1 wire out to the IPAC.

Thanks for the reply!

I wasn't too keen on the 'shoving them all in there' method (which is what I was thinking of), so I'll have a look at the terminal strip option.   ;D

I would vote for the terminal strip too. Although you might be able to shove them all in, the terminal strip would probably cause less headaches.

And P.S. - thats a lot of buttons for P1B1... what's your CP gonna look like?
first off your and idiot

This is it here : http://www.jaix.com.au/arcade/Img_0355.jpg

So, buttons 1, 2 & 3 to the left & right of the trackball & spinner.  I'm catering for both left & right handed players (I'm a lefty myself, as is the missus).

Why can't you daisy chain the wires if they're all going to the same input? I was wondering the best way to wire multiple controls into the same joystick/button and a few people said the best method was to daisy chain them like I do with the ground wire. Is there a reason why daisy chaining them is not the best alternative?

Well, from my limited knowledge, it is like a circuit.  If you were to wire them like this, the last button would work, but the other button would work only if all buttons after it in the chain were pressed.  AFAIK, they are like gates, the signal needs an open path to get through.  So if you were to press the 2nd in the chain, the 3rd & 4th 'gate' would need to be open (i.e. those buttons would need to be pressed) for the signal to get through.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong!

You could daisy chain them the same as your grounds.   Like in my handy picture here:

You better clean up that wiring mess by the spinner before the spinner hacks those wires to pieces!!!! :o

I was thinking that too, about the spinner eating at the wires, but I guess gravity could be a big help there too.  You should still try to clean up near the spinner though, no sense risking it.

WOW!!!  :o
that CP is huge!!!, how wide is it!! 40"??

Yup, better clean that mess up,  --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type-- the spinner kills a couple of wires.

lol, I DID do that before putting the base on.  Never fear, the wires are safe!  ;)

The dimensions of the CP are 48 7/16" * 17 11/16".  Yes, it's one big daddy!
