No Virtua Tennis 2? Where I live this is one of the few joystick and button games (apart from fighters) that you still see regularly in the arcades.

Do yo ureally think the all three NFL games are "must haves"?  I can see one of them being a must have, probably 2k2, but surely not all three...

Oh, and add Guilty Gear X to that list, it's incredible in VGA.  (Looks better than my PS2 copy over Component video)

Gauntlet Legends? I had no idea there was a Gauntlet game for DC. I've got to get that one!

Yeah it's the predecessor of Gauntlet Legends: Dark Legacy from the arcade and current generation consoles.

I appreciate the info. I just got a Gauntlet Legends on ebay and a couple of the others from another member over at the Atari Age forum.

I'm kicking myself for not getting a DC earlier.

Confidential Mission is another DC lightgun game that you should get if you are into House of Dead 2 and light gun games.

Just Street Fighter?!?!
« Reply #10 on: May 22, 2004, 02:27:28 am »
I don't mean any disrespect, because that is an amazing list of games on my favorite, nearly extinct system, but from where I come from there are distinctions between the Street Fighter titles.  I would list Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike among my all time favorite games, not to mention TOP tier 2D fighter, along with the classic, Alpha 3 (paying tribute to the alpha series).

Paying tribute to SNK I appreciate the Last Blade 2 and King of Fighters series (yet another game failed to specify) listed but I think that the port of Garou: Mark of the Wolves could also be listed if you're a fighter fan.

All in all, excellent list!

I just picked up Resident Evil 2 (This is the first game I've played from that series). Quite a lot of fun.

I stopped playing games like that because they scare the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of me. Wigs me out too much. I fall back to a nice NES Super Mario or something like that to wind down. Horror is not a genre that I enjoy in the video game format even though the developers do a really nice job.

From another angle, my favorite RE review when the game first came out called it a "door opening simulator". Still cracks me up!

My favorite "play it all the time games" are Soul Calibur and Pen Pen Tricelon which I play with my 5-year old. And Hydro Thunder and Crazy Taxi are great for blow out fast play and quit games.

LOL, that's pretty funny.  ;D Sometimes it does seem like that's all you're doing. Getting to reduce zombies to a smoking heap of goo with a rocket launcher makes up for it though.  8)

I stopped playing games like that because they scare the <auto-censored> out of me.

Wow. I got censored by software. I'm not sure how to feel about that.  ;)

Cannon Spike is like robotron and Smash tv from what I understand.  I have it, but haven't played it yet.

I was wondering how many of these are "cab friendly"?  I will be mainly getting a DC for my arcade machine (joysticks only).

Aside from the driving and shooting games, most of these are quite cab friendly.  Of course that also depends on whether or not you're running through a TV or a VGA/Arcade monitor.  Some of the games don't support VGA (though there is a way around this, see the dreamcast on arcade monitor thread for more details).

About the only games which require analog thumbstick use (which makes them unusable on a cab) are restricted to some of the sports titles (basball/football) games.  JGR also requires analog which sucks...but its a long game I wouldn't want to play standing up anyway.  ;D
