Is this PC fast enought for mame.
« on: May 06, 2004, 10:45:38 pm »
Hey everyone,

I have a 1.3ghz p4, 64meg ddr ati, 128 ram. Is this fast enought to run mame and a good performance level.

Please any feedback would be great. Just about to start my first project.

There's a sticky thread @ the top dedicated to this.

Short answer: yes.

Slightly longer answer: depends on what games you want to run.

Thanks for the quick reply Peale,

I am interested mostly in classics, and TMNT, MK  and Street Fighter series.

MK 2 will be a big staple with the friends.

Joe

Thanks for the tip on the other thread, still new and learning the boards.

Yup you'll be sweet. I suggest running windows command line mame though and maybe mamewah, this will give you better performance than mame32. Are you running XP? If so you might want to consider boosting that RAM up a bit, 256.

It is running winxp home.  I figured I would bump the ram up to 512 based on what I read on the sticky faq that Peale mentioned.

I do have another question, might get lossed in this thread, but my choice for the encoder is

The Ipac 4player Version and Opti-Pac. And are the Perfect 360's worth the extra cost. I do like the fact that with those you dont hear the clicks. And in John's book, He seems to favor them as well.

Thanks for the feedback
Joe

Personally I use comps and to be honest I don't hear any clicking only the sound of me busting Goro's ass lol.
512 is overkill for your RAM but if you've got the money chuck it in there.
What do you need an optipac for? You haven't mentioned any spinner or trackball games.
