MiniPAC with Imperial/Betson trackball?
« on: May 03, 2004, 12:53:56 pm »
Has anyone done this?  My trackball innards are of the PS/2 mouse variety, so I'd probably need to do some wiring trickiness.  My main concern is that it is possible in the first place.  I need to get a t-stick plus, and shipping from the UK kills me...so I figure I might as well order up a few things while I'm at it.

Thanks

Coleman

If you have a PS/2 trackball then why would you need to connect it to the Mini-PAC.  You don't need the Trackball/Spinner harness for the Mini-Pac since you can just plug the trackball into your mouse port.  Just get the 28 input version and save yourself ~$20.

I have two cabinets using the Mini-pac.  One with the trackball/spinner harness connected to the Ultimarc TB and one with the Betson PS/2 trackball and the 28 input Mini-Pac.

Both work fine.

I should have said that the cabinet I plan to put this in has swappable panels...one has sticks/buttons/spinner and the other is trackball/buttons.

The spinner has a USB interface and and the trackball obviously has a PS/2 interface...if I can swap the panels by connecting to the minipac only, rather than unplugging the PS2 and rebooting, that would be preferable.

I've just realized that the connectors on the minipac are actually 1/4" and so I probably won't get that for that reason.  This strikes me as an odd choice, given that most microswitches on arcade panels (andleaf switches too, for that matter) have 3/16" connections.  Maybe the idea is to accomodate all switch types?  How about a 3/16" version as an option?
