25KHz + Games List
« on: April 28, 2004, 03:14:31 pm »
I am currently trying to decide what arcade monitor to purchase.

I understand that some games in mame will not work with a standard 15KHz arcade monitor.

Is there a list of games with required monitor frequency so i can evaluate if i really need to spend the extra for a mult-freq monitor?

b3atmania advised:

Too many to list from memory, but here are a few:
- Atari System 2 based: 720 degrees, Paperboy, Super Sprint, APB
- Konami DJ-Main based: Beatmania games
- Sega System 24 based: Scramble Spirit, Hot Rod, Bonanza Bros.
- Sega Model 1 based: Virtua Fighter, Virtua Racing, Star Wars Arcade
- Midway Seattle based: Carnevil, NFL Blitz games

does anyone have a full list?

it would help me to make up my mind...

Wouldn't  Advmame solve the problem?

i think the monitor needs to be physically able to display the extra pixels that higher resolution games have.

Correct.  The image can be displayed by either skipping some lines, or by interlacing, but either way it looks a lot better on the right monitor.

Here's a list of horizontal games with a y resolution over 300:

the list seems pretty long to me :(

can you display some of these games on std res monitor using ArcadeVGA by enabling interlacing?

Have you seen the list of games that fit in the opposite category? (holy moly!) ;D

Absolutely.  All of these games will play fine with the ArcadeVGA in interlaced mode.  The flaw is that it's interlaced which isn't perfect (because of the slight flicker to the screen) compared to using the proper monitor.
