Happ High-Ball vs. Regular Trackball
« on: April 24, 2004, 01:37:22 am »
I see many low-cost 3" Happ trackballs for sale frequently; however, high-ball model that I have only seen on Happ's site has caught my eye. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it because it would cost significantly more (from Happ) than the regular one (for sale in many places including ebay).

I tried doing some searches on the high-ball and only found that someone had difficulty when mounting it and another was in the process of writing a review. How new is this product?

Here are the two trackballs that I am considering.

3" Diameter High-Ball Trackball: http://www.happcontrols.com/trackballs/560110xx.htm
The difference is listed as:
-New case design allows ball to sit higher within control panel
-More hand contact and better play with high-ball

Build it once and build it right! Revise only as your dreams grow.

Have you looked at the Happs high lip trackball as well ?

This is my personal favorite, if you use a mounting plate the lip sticks up 1/8" above the top of the plate so if you are putting something like lexan on your CP the lip then sits nice and flush with top of the lexan.

IIRC Happs lists this type as the Goldern Tee trackball.

I hadn't heard of this one, and I'll keep it in mind. I will be using lexan on my CP, so perhaps there is a lip-type plate for the high-ball as well.

Actually there are some comparisons buried somewhere in these forums that I found useful (Don't ask me to find them again).  Can't remember the exact conclusions, but the person's ultimate recommendation was the Golden Tee High Lip trackball.  I took that advice and am glad I did.

hello out there .. what are the differences betweem the high lip trackball and the high ball trackball from happs....as far as the trackball assembly itself just the top half of the case if you were to go to mounting and exploded views on happs website and compare the two .  the high ball case  is $3.65 - part number     95-1266-00.  as far as mounting -the mounting hole for the high ball  would have to be slightly larger in your control pannel or mounting plate as far as which one is better that would be a matter of personal prefference. hope this helps out.....

The biggest difference between the three different models are that the high LIP trackball has a higher ring around it than the normal one, and the high BALL trackball has more ball exposed than the other two.
