Spinner/knob combo
« on: April 23, 2004, 06:19:11 am »
I want to use the Oscar Controls push/pull spinner for its add functionality, but I like the look of the black anodized aluminum Tempest replica spinner knob. Does anyone see a problem with this combo? I think that the Tempest knob may be more difficult to pull than the Discs of Tron type knob.

I don't see any big problems.  It would just be a bit harder to pull up is all.

I'm thinking the shape of the Tempest knob would make it VERY difficult to pull up, at least with any accuracy.

I only know of two games where the push/pull functions are even used--Zwackery and Discs of Tron, so I don't think that using a Tempest knob would hurt that much though.

I personally never cared much for the knob on Tempest.
It always felt too small to me.

Thanks guys. I think that I'll go w/ this set up. Tempest is my fav spinner game, followed w/ Discs of Tron. I just hope that it won't look funny w/ the clearance needed to push down on the spinner. If it does, or if it is too hard to pull on, I'll just get the one for Discs of Tron, ebay the old, and take a small loss.

You could build the loss in by buying both, then selling one off.  That way you only pay shipping once.

Of course, if you're reasonably sure the tempest knob would work, that's a stupid idea.

I just agree that the tempest knob is too small (but hey, if it's your favorite game....) and probably nearly impossible to really pull up on.

What was that again?

I didn't even think of that.
The big flange at the bottom will be sitting 1/4-3/8"  above the CP.

To see if it will look funny, I'm going to make a knob out of wood or clay and stick it on a small nail about that height. That way I'll know if I really want to do this, for it may just look terrible.
