sanwa buttons

anyone ever use these in a cab? I have few thoughts.

1. has anyone tried mounting them just on plexi, and mounting the plexi in a wood panel? (or doing the same thing with metal)

2. Anyone know the depth of them?

3. I think im gonna order some and play around with it...

4. Anyone know where i could but a flat peice of metal? and tools to drill with?

I believe the sanwa buttons are 15mm from the lip to the bottom of the base

it is possible to mount them on thin lexan but you might need to reinforce the area a little with some bracing.

sheet metal can be purchased in various places depending on your area, the key is to find a sheet that will be rigid enough not to bow but depending on the area you'll need you might not need something of overly heavy gauge. here locally (toronto) we have metal supermarket (metal store) but in your area you might have something similar. Home depot also has some but I dont know the gauge of their stock. to cut holes theres a few options, you could use a nice high quality hole saw, Panel Punch (kinda costly but worth it if you do lots of metal panels) or even a Uni-Bit can work too provided the material isnt overly thick.

it seems like they "click" into the panel theyre mounted in. What thickness should the metal be for them to not feel loose.

yes thats right they do have the the clips on the side what snap onto metal panels.
sheet thickness, depending on the material  they will snap onto a metal panel approximately 1/64th of an inch thick fine without any play so in that case you're looking at around 26 (.0179")  or 24GA (.0239")  sheet.  I dont know what the max size they will snap into, i usually build metal (aluminum or stanless) control panels.

what kind of quick connects do they use? or do they use them?

I usually solder them on but I believe they have a #110 tab size I can find out for sure. soldering is easiest if you dont plan on changing the layout too often.

1 more thing... where did you buy yours? I know arcade infinity used to (still does?)  carry them. Also, I know excellentcom has them
