Question: Optimum Control Panel Layout Ideas
« on: April 19, 2004, 05:57:46 pm »
I am going to be building a new control Panel for my cabinet. It will have:

a)   P1J      Player1 Joystick + four buttons (left hand side of CP)
b)   P2J      Player 2 Joystick + four buttons (RHS of CP)
c)   TB      Trackball in the middle further away from monitor
d)   SP      Spinner in the middle closer to the monitor
e)   JF      Joystick with Fire button next to spinner (to play Tron)

I want to keep the CP width somewhere around 12
Vids:  Home built MAME machine, Crystal Castles. Arkanoid
Pins:   Williams Aztec (working). Stern Nugent (not working...yet), Williams Phoenix (major not working, missing parts.... )

Always on the lookout for buying 90's game with Ramps that need work...

My panel is 26" X 11" and it incorperates 2 T-Stick pluses with 7 buttons each, cap com/neo geo layout, a 3" happs track ball in the dead center, and on top two mouse buttons, two administration buttons and player 1 and 2 buttons. I feel the layout isn't crowded and is comfortable without being overly large. I'll take a look for the layout template when I get home and send it to ya, but I pretty much just took "Thejohn"s layout from his centipide cab and used it for my own. Take a look at his cab in the project anoucment section. If your willing to go to 16" deep on your panel you should have plenty of room for what you want. About spinners, read the retroblast review and make your own decision, the slikstick sounds like it's the best, but if your using a Optipac for your trackball you won't need a spiner witha built in interface and I would go with Oscar's spinner. Hope this kinda helps.
