Adjusting mechs.......how?
« on: April 18, 2004, 06:55:25 pm »

I have two American 25  cent coin mechs installed, and I was wondering how to adjust them to Canadian, and / or token.

It's a HAPP over/under door, and the mechs have Wells Gardner stickers on them.

There's adjustment screws, and a magnet right?

Is there a writeup somewhere that goes into detail?

Visit www.dameon.net/BBBB/cm.html for adjustment instructions. If the mechs have Wells-Gardner stickers on them then they are actually Coin Controls mechs.

Defiantely don't throw them in the trash, if they are the ones that came with the door I sold you, then they are brand new, and as Ken pointed out they are Coin Control mechs.

There should be a white nylon screw on the side that will adjust the size of the coin it will accept (within reason, but well within the differences between a US and Canadian quarter).  I would first try adjusting that screw until coin is accepted.  I don't have the mech in front of me right now, so I can't give you any detail beyond that, but I can take a look tonight to see if there are any other adjustment areas.

another option is take them apart... take the extra parts out... And create a pathway from the input to the coint part every time...  (I used straws for the pathways... cut in 1/2 ( for the "U" that will cratle the coins as the run... the "0' of the straw made the coins sometime stick on the edges).

Anyway... at the end... ANY coin works...  Very nice ot have a giant piggy bank.

Hi Mike.

A friend and I experimented yesterday with US quarters, Canadian quarters, and tokens.

We did adjust the white screw that you mention (diameter regulation), and that helped but.........the other variable was the magnets. We tried removing them, reversing them, and multiple combinations (one side on each magnet is blue, and whether that means something or not, we don't know).

At best, we could get the US quarters and tokens to accept. We could not get the Canadians to work, no matter what we did.

Sometimes they would jam in the mech, and at other times, they would reject.

Happ sells a wide variety of coin acceptors for many different demoninations. Why not just call them and tell them what you need?

I personally use Imonex mechs.  Specifially I use #42-6901-00 in my machine because I wanted to use tokens or quarters.  I have noticed the mechs have gone way up in price since I bought mine (like 2x the price now).

On the mechs I have seen, if you remove the magent then the mech lets the canadian quarter go through.
