Fusion Marquee
« on: April 18, 2004, 02:44:56 am »
A few months ago I saw a thread that showed the Fusion marquee in additional colors such as red. I am interested in obtaining a copy of the file if it is available. I need to put together a marquee and sadly am far more autistic than I am artistic.

Anyone know if the file is available anywhere in an AI or EPS format?

Thanks

not availble under vectorial format (as far as I know)
but in raster format, you can grab it from http://edeveaud.free.fr/tmp
I'm on the planning stage

Thanks for the link.

Anyone know if it's still available in red?

Also with the blue one from the link being a JPG with dimensions of 30 x 16 how bad will it look after resizing it to 27 x 7.5 ?

Thanks again for any / all help

I switch the channel to red and stretched it down to 7.5" x 27". The red probably needs more tweaking, but I think it looks a little too squashed to be used anyway.

There's a very subtle hexagonal pattern in the background, if I could replicate it I could add a couple of inches of it either side, so it stays more proportional when squashed down. I might spend a little time trying this out,  I wouldn't mind using it myself. Who originally made the image?

Here's a downsampled image of what it looks like now in CMYK color:

Hi,

When I made the final image it was made at 30 x 16 as someone had requested it at that size for a control panel. The idea was that you would crop it to the size you're after. Try cropping it to your marquee size and see how it looks. That's what I'm doing for my marquee and I think it still looks pretty good.

Thanks Rom.

Here it is stretched to 27" wide and then cropped to 7.5" high.

Gozur: send me a PM if you'd like a full size copy of this.

I use Photoshop and CorelDraw, both can easily switch between pixels and inches.

If your software doesn't do inches, you can use a simple calculation. If the print you want is 10" x 10" and you'll be printing at 300dpi, you want a bitmap thats 3000 x 3000 pixels. Just multiply by 300.

Same here! Thanks a million Rom!
What software did you use to make all the 3d hexagons?
And how or where did you find all the character images?

I had a buddy of mine who works at Kinko's print me up one of them today.

Came out pretty well. might have him print out a blue one as well.

Thanks ROM and JoyMonkey

Wow. That's the first pic I've seen that has used the image. It's nice to know that it's being used thanks. One day I'll get my own marquee printed  :'( when I manage to get my own cabinet finished.
I'm surprised a the intensity of the light in the centre. Looking at the original I wouldn't of thought it would be so bright.

Joymonkey:
I used 3D Max to create the scene and made the textures in photoshop. For the textures, I just took screen shots of the games that had characters that would work best. I then Copied them out of the image, blew them up, added scan lines and threw them back into Max. This whole 3D thing was a lot of trial and error. Seeing the quality of graphics created on this board I've got a long way to go.

Gozur:
If you decide to go ahead with a blue version I would love to see it. I think the yellow text on blue would be a nice contrast.

Gozur:

What did you have them print it on?  I tried to have them do it online, since the nearest Kinkos is 50 miles away, and I didn't want to have to drive there twice.  But, for whatever reason, their online printing service doesn't recognize .jpg as a format.  Go figure.

It's printed on "Back Light Film" I also had the problem with the online tool. You can zip it and email it to your local kinko's. You can get their email address over the phone or from the online tool. Normal pricing is $15 to print the marquee (27" x 7.5") with a minimum charge of $25 so if you are planning on having them print you one, consider having them print a second one as it would only be $5 more (plan for the next cab, etc). $30 for 2 isnt bad.

Hope this helps,

Wow Gozur, that does look great.  What font did you use?  I was experimenting with some fonts on that but couldn't get anything to look nearly as good as that.

Font  was from www.blambot.com

Minimum charge?  Either it's something new, or your Kinkos does it.  Last time I had custom work done @ Kinkos they charged me what is cost, no more.

Same here, had tons of stuff done at kinkos and they've always charged whatever the cost was to do it (eg $10 per square foot).  I would have thought that it was a standard chainwide.  You should doublecheck with them and if so ask them if they are the only ones charging a ripoff charge?

Those are the prices they quoted me over the phone. In the thread I mentioned that a friend who works there printed it for me. I believe it cost me a whopping $6 I too thought it was weird their pricing model, but it didnt really apply, so no biggie. I did like the convenience of emailing the graphic and being able to pick it up that day, which is probably the biggest selling point of doing it this way. It was a gamble, but hey I'm not out any significant money.
