Any idea what game I might be talking about?
« on: April 17, 2004, 05:50:20 pm »
 ???
I recently obtained an arcade cabinet that had formica on its sides.  After removing it, I could still make out remnants of the art underneath it.  Looks like it was some kind of racing game.  The sides feature an oval picture with two formula one type race cars.  I don't know what game this art was from and would like to find out?  I don't have a digital camera available to me at the moment, but wondered if anybody had any thoughts on what game, I might be describing?

Finally got access to a digital camera.  Does anybody know what game this artwork is for?  I don't believe it's Pole Position.  THanks.

Sorry,  I tried to post my artwork picture, but the system wouldn't take it.  It is 1.19mb.  Is there any other way I can post it?  Thanks.

It's a conversion of some type.  That's either a Pac/Gal cabinet (I think, would need to see more).

Are there any copyright notices on the artwork?  Company name, say near an edge somewhere?

Picture did finally post with my last posting.  Sorry about that.  Anyhow, the cabinet is indeed a conversion of a pacman cabinet.  I can make out what appears to be the remnants of pacman artwork on the front kick panel.  I will look tonight and see if I can detect any copyright notice or company on the racing artwork.   Sidenote, appears cabinet has been at least 3 different games.  The monitor in it (don't know if it works, not compete, and don't have any boards) has screen burn in from what appears to be a golf game, then there is the racing artwork, and under that appears to be pacman artwork.

Monitor burn is not always an indication of conversion, if that was the case than my dedicated Road Blasters was once a Galaga '88, and my Star Wars used to be a Tempest!

Monitors get swapped around quite a bit, it is probably more common for a cabinet to have different/replacement model than it is for it to have the original. A lot of operators/shops would simply keep several working monitors on hand, and when a game would have a monitor problem they would swap the monitor on location and then fix the old one back at the shop.

I really can't even count the number of dedicated games I have owned with burn in from a different game on the monitor.
