Play spinner games with a trackball?
« on: April 17, 2004, 03:01:01 pm »
i haven't got a spinner but do have a 3" trackball on order from Happ.

Can i use the trackball with games designed to have spinners?

Does spinning the ball left/right or up/down (which is it?) have same effect as turning a spinner?

sorry if this is a dumb question! just hoping the trackball can be used to play tempest :)

Yes you can do it, but it isn't as good.

It works really well if you're not hard-core about the feel of your spinner games.  The guts are the same, it's just the feel of the spinners that's different.

I've never tried it, but I don't see how you could play Tempest with a trackball. That game requires such a perfect touch and perfect placement. Seems like it'd be like playing with boxing gloves on.

I've tried Tempest with the trackball and it's not the same. Perhaps it's just me however because I love tempest and wanted an exact (or as close as possible) feel when playing.

Most if not all the spinner games can be controled by the trackball but it's all a matter of perception and what you want as far as the 'right' feel goes.
Great big gobs of greasy grimey gopher guts.

I've got a trackball and a spinner. Yes you can play spinner games with a trackball, but it's not really the same.

What would me much more fun would be playing trackball games with 2 Spinners, etch a sketch style!  :P

Of course that would probably result in better Capcom Bowling scores than I can get with the trackball!
