Advice on metal control panel thickness.
« on: April 15, 2004, 07:42:48 pm »
I am ordering my control panels from the steel fabricators tomorrow and am considering ordering them in 2mm mild steel and then powder coating them. The dimensions are 66cm wide by 34cm deep. Does anyone see any problems with this?
Thankyou.

2 MM???  That sound excessive.  16G is the norm, IIRC.

Would that be about 1.5mm? That's the thickness I used for my mounting polates on my last CP and that was pretty sturdy.

Honestly, I have no clue.  Let's see if Google has an answer:

Let's see, I found this:

http://www.geocities.com/shridhar_prabhu/gauge-cov.html

Which states that 16G is .060 in steel.  According to another site, that's 1.5MM.  So yes, you're right!

Ok went to the steel people today and after looking at 1.5mm and 2mm I went with the 2mm. Thanks for input folks. 1.5mm was just a little too flexible.
