Boom PS Joy USB Converter Problem
« on: April 13, 2004, 04:24:45 pm »
This is a little long-winded, but please bear with me...

I bought two of these adapters to play StepMania on my PC:

http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=55&products_id=255&

I also tried to use them to play NES/SNES games using a PS2 dualshock controller. The problem that I'm having, with both dancepads in SM and just using a regular PS2 controller in ZSNES or FCEUltra, is that there is a delay in the controller recognizing that I have pressed a button/direction. This seems to happen mostly upon the first couple of presses, which don't register, and then the dancepad/controller will start to work properly, and this cycle repeats. This continues to happen intermittently throughout any game I play. I have other USB PC gamepads that work perfectly with no delay. I am using WinXP and have an AMD 2400+ processor with 512MB of PC2100 memory, VIA KT333 Chipset, a soundblaster audigy2 sound card, ATI AIW 8500 video card with 64MB, DirectX 8.1, and USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 ports. Oddly enough, I have been able to play Pump It Up: The PREX3 for PC flawlessly with this same setup, and with the same dance pad and converter. The only difference being I'm using JoyToKey to get it to work with the PIU software, as it does not accept DirectX type input. I first tried this converter with the existing WinXP drivers, and had delay problems, then I updated the drivers to the Win98 drivers, and still had the same problems. I then tried to use JoyToKey with SM, and still had the same problems. These converters are terrible. Does anyone know how to fix this? The Lik-Sang faq for this converter has a question about this delay in WinXP, and the answer was to wait for updated drivers! Are there any converters that don't have this delay issue? I already see posted on the Lik-Sang Smartjoy Plus converter forum, that someone is posting that this converter also has issues.

Thanks if you read all of this, and thanks for any help.
