Two mice at once in Windows 98se?
« on: April 12, 2004, 12:34:42 am »
Is it possible to run two mice at the same time in Windows 98se (I know, I know, I need to upgrade my Windows, but I bought Windows Me and am now a little wary of Windows upgrades)

I am hoping to run a PS/2 and USB mouse at the same time.

Any thoughts?

Doh!  As far as I know, Mame Analog+ will work with multiple mice under Windows 98se, but only if they are all USB.  Mame Analog+ XP (on the other hand) uses a different system which has the ability to mix-and-match usb/serial/ps2 mice, however that's only for Windows XP.

Your 2 closest options are:

Use 2 USB mice with Windows 98se & Mame Analog+.
Switch to Windows XP & use your ps/2 and usb mice with Mame Analog+ XP.

Also, you could run XMame or AdvanceMame under Linux, which also supports multiple mice of different types.

You SHOULD be able to use one USB and one PS/2 mouse in Win98SE with standard MAME, they just will both "fight" over the Player 1 cursor.

That said, I had a problem with my single PS/2 mouse locking up the system at random intervals and switched to a USB mouse.  The problem I had occurred with 3-button and scroll wheel mice, and a mobo swap and windows re-install did not fix it.
