Mame - eliminating the need to type OK?
« on: April 08, 2004, 08:43:25 am »
Is there a way to set Mame (running under mamewah) so it doesn't give you ANY messages at startup of a game that makes you type OK?  Once in a while it warns that the colors may be wrong or this game has problems.  I'd like to bypass that like we bypass the disclaimer message.

THANKS!

Mr. Dude

In order to skip the disclaimer, edit the mame.ini file:

skip_disclaimer         1
skip_gameinfo           1

If you do not have a mame.ini file, run "mame -cc" to create one.

skip_gameinfo           1

I have these options set, but it doesn't skip "This game doesn't support flipping in cocktail mode" or "incorrect video emulation" type messages.

That is because those are different warnings.

To totally eliminate all of the 'OK' message, you need to use one of the unofficiall MAMES that supports this, or compile your own version.

NoNameMAME (and some other builds) has options to bypass the warnings.

Mame32 Does this, but I have never tried it with a frontend. It might take command line options, I don't see why not.. But you never know. Anyway it's somewhere in the default game options.

Where's that option in mame32?  I've never seen it before and I would love to bypass these messages too...

To clarify, I'm not talking about the ones that show up on all games, just the ones with things that are wrong.

Someone really needs to make this more prominent in the documentation or sticky it in this forum so we don't have it asked EVERY DAMN WEEK!

I always wondered why the MAME team will give us an option to skip the legal disclaimer, but not the "Screen flipping in coctail mode not supported" messages.  Is it really that important?

The killer for me is the "NO GOOD DUMP KNOWN" message.  If I hit a ROM that has one of these like Lunar Lander, Lazarus locks up completely and I have to power off the cabinet...

Apparently back in the day there was that option but a lot of people used it and then hounded the MAME devs about why certain games weren't working, not realizing they just skipped the part that said it wasn't complete, etc.

  Silly people.

I've gotta go back to recompiling my own MAME.  I stopped doing that after I started using MAME:Analog+ for multiple light guns...

Unfortunately, to compile MAME now you have to upgrade to DJGPP 3, and that keeps me from compiling Stella, and since I haven't found a single stable 2600 emulator with a configurable keymap, I'm stuck...
