Technical Question IRT Keywiz and PS/2 converter
« on: April 03, 2004, 08:54:04 pm »
I already emailed RandyT but maybe I can get a faster response from you guys now seeing as how it's the weekend.

For some bizarre reason the keyboard input on my PC isn't working. It won't load during the bios. For obvious reasons I need a functional keyboard port to use with my Keywiz.

Will I have any operational problems w/ keywiz if I use a PS/2 to USB adapter for the keyboard? I figure I'd ask before I went out and spent money on a converter.

Weekend?  What's that?  ;)

For anyone else interested in the answer to that question, this is the response that was sent:

--------

The results of doing this will depend greatly on the converter you use.
Some will allow multiple simultaneous keystrokes and some will not.

Quite honestly, it will cripple the performance of the KeyWiz.

--------

It doesn't mean that it won't work in an emergency situation, but getting the PS/2 port back in order somehow may be a more viable option.  Maybe a BIOS setting? Or Keyboard fuse?

If it's just a keyboard fuse, it should be pretty simple to get the KeyWiz working with a little bypass operation.

There's something wrong with the motherboard and the last thing I want to do is buy another one... I have a perfect Socket7 for my AMD K6 III.
Thanks for the info!
