usb flash drive..
« on: March 31, 2004, 11:43:06 pm »
Alright,  I picked up a "Cruzer Mini" usb flashdrive, plugged it in and allowed it to install.  It works fine when I download a file off the internet. I tried transferring a MAME rom from my folder to the flashdrive. I clicked "send to"  and up popped the list including floppy, drive M ect.. but the icon for the flashdrive isn't in the dropdown menu so I can't send the rom to it. Why isn't the flashdrive icon present in the drop down menu ?  Is there another way to transfer my roms to the flashdrive besides rightclicking on the rom and clicking "send to" ?   If I download a rom straight off the internet the flashdrive is recognized and allows me to save the rom file to it but it isn't being recognized when I try to transfer a rom from my folder. Anyone know why this is happening  ???

Can't you just drag and drop in windows explorer.  It will be in the Folders list on the left hand side.

You probably have to add it manually.  Assuming that you're using Windows 2000 or XP, go to the %SystemRoot%\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\SendTo folder and create a shortcut to your flash drive in that folder.

yeah, what he sed.

Think about it for a second.  You're wondering why a (generally) static menu doesn't give you an icon for a drive that is      re-moov-able.

Every time you pull the flash drive out, away goes the drive.  Do you want a constantly changing drop-down menu probably crapping up your registry with all the swapping?

Cut and paste works wonders

It's what I do, and so far I haven't had a cut/paste failure yet.

As a side note, it'd help anyone to diagnose/troubleshoot your problem if system info is given i.e. OS, USB 1.1/2.0, board port or card port, etc.  More info will get you a more specific answer, less info can result in solutions offered that could be hazardous to your computer's health.
