Group buy, POP 'N MUSIC!
« on: March 26, 2004, 07:06:10 am »
I realize this normally would go in the buy it now forum, but think it deserves more attention than it will get there.  I may be wrong, so feel free, admins, to move it.  I'm not that worried about it.

And now for the deal.

Over in this thread http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=17469 John Lee, who appears to work for coinopexpress.com has stated in one of his replies that although you do have to make a minnimum order, you can mix colors in the cartons.  The thing that immediatly comes to mind is Pop 'N Music and how darn expensive the buttons for this one of a kind controler is.

Well I did the math and figgured out that you can fit just short of 9 full sets of buttons into a case of 80.  At coinopexpress.com's price that comes out to be about $50 per set (not including shipping, but that will be divided 9 ways).  I don't know about you guys, but that sure seems to be a good deal to me.  Granted, someone will have to buy 1 button from one of the more expensive dealers out there, but it seems like a small price to pay when you're saving $40 minimum on each set.

At the moment, ordering multiple colors of Dome Illuminated Pushbuttons in one carton is un-confirmed as to whether it is posible, but John seems to be quick with responses so we should have an answer soon.

What do you use to play pop n music?

is mame? or a console?

I saw the video of that guy playing it and it looks like FUN! (this is the game where the colored balls fall and it sounds like you are playing a piano right?)

I'm interested in John's response, because when I ordered buttons from them, they wouldn't mix colors because they don't actually make the button, but rather get them by the carton in specific colors.  They didn't seem willing to spilt cartons.  But, hey, maybe things have changed

I thought the wico buttons were the same, just had an extra octagon type ring that you could simply not use when you install them?

NY_in_TX, it is a console game.  Specificly PS2, it's an import so you will need a modded system or jap ps2 to play.

Um, guys, by the time you pay your share of the shipping from Hong Kong, your share of the bank transfer fee, your share of the extra button, and then pay the shipping from whoever got the box delivered, well, you could have just bought them here.

I got a quote on shipping... $166!
For a total of $528.40.
Divide that by 9 that's $58.71.

So, the price is getting up there...  :-\

This bank transfer fee you speak of... what's that all about?  Couldn't the person making the purchase use a debit/credit card?

So anyway, it does appear that paige is going to be right on this one.  By the time everything is accounted for the most you'll save is maybe $15?  Is that really worth all the trouble?  I'm not quite sure it is.

I'm not giving up quite yet, so if anyone is still interested in this, there's no reason not to keep this post going.

I have attached the conversation as of now that I have had with Lee from coinopexpress, and as long as I get no objection will continue to do so for your viewing pleasure  :P

[edit]Whoops, just realized that theres 1 red button not 1 white as I noted in my e-mail to Lee.  Oh well, I don't think it will really matter.[/edit]

Bank transfer fee. Most HK and other Asian businesses do not take credit cards. Just about everything over there is done via bank or wire transfer. I seem to recall the salesman from coinopexpress mentioning it to me when I was looking for a Uo Poko kit.

My bank charged me $40 to transfer to their HK branch bank.  That was before I realized I could have transfered to their US branch for something like $15.  They do also accept Paypal, but at a 4.15% handling fee.

You can mix colors?  Perfect.  I was thinking you'd have to make 40 controllers minimum...
But, I won't be able to buy these.  I have almost no money, a tiny tiny income, and a PS2 that won't read DVD's that I'll have to repair or replace.  Other than that, I think Pop'N is the next game I want to get into, but... not for a while.
There is SO a spoon.

This might help your PS2 issues and save you a few bucks...

Shhh...you're gonna ruin my business! I buy broken PS2s (cheap) and use my astounding tech skills (I adjust the laser...just like in the link) to fix 'em and sell them at a good profit. Anyway, just to second _Iz- 99% of the time read errors on the PS2 are due to the laser being out of alignment (due to people sitting their systems in the "tower position"...Sony no longer recommends this). Oh, just because a system can read CD's doesn't mean its out of alignment. The laser has to be adjusted just right to read every color/type of disc, so, test one of every color disc before you put the cover back on. It's a problem that can be fixed in ten minutes...just be careful taking it apart...there are some VERY delicate cables in there.

well it pretty much looks like its not gonna happen, maybe if we all get together and order the same buttons from wico even though theyre 10$ each we could get a bulk discount that way?
