BYO "Nasty-Spinner" UPDATE....
megashock5:
Nasty,
Are you still offering to build these for $18?
Is it something I could plug in to my miniPac?
thanks!
Thenasty:
I am looking for some more HD. My vendor has stocks of Serial and PS2 mouse again but the HD is holding me back.
I will be PMing the BYOC users before I post anything for sale.
apeekaboo:
Hey Nasty, this is a great guide! :)
Do you have any slightly angled pics of the spinner you could post?
I'd like to see how you cut the harddisk platter.
Is it cut in three pieces, first from 1 o'clock to 5 o'clock and the again from 10 o'clock to 7 o'clock? So the piece you use is the middle one?
For all persons about to gut your old harddrives:
Maxtor Bigfoot 4.1 GB and Quantum LPS (probably < 850 MB) did not have the needed hole at the bottom. I used a WD Caviar 22500, which has the needed hole.
Dougmeister:
Hey, I'm about ready to bite, but would like to know:
1) Anyone out there give me any feedback on these spinners? I hear nothing negative, so that's a real good sign.
2) Do they work with the DOS version of Mame? (Shelled out from Win '98, not booted directly to DOS)
Thenasty:
Here is an update.
Since some of you had told me that the epoxy used was coming off, I have now decided to use the HARD as METAL from the Auto Store. Also, the "L" shape is now screwed in the disc platter so in can be taken out. I have found a different shaft that it can be adjusted to a certain length. So no need to cut the shaft just screw it in further or unscrew it out.
Also notice the MOUSE on the right side of the pic, this is a MS mouse and its no good, its to long. You have to get a mouse PCB that is half size like the pic shown.
Anyway, I might have another ONE available so its FIRST COME FIRST SERVE....
