Hooking up a coin door
« on: March 24, 2004, 06:50:28 pm »
I won an eBay auction and got a coin door for cheap!  So now I'm all excited, but I have no idea how the friggin' thing works!

To begin with, the only thing I really want to do is have the coin lights come on so the cabinet looks more authentic.  I'd like to try and hook up the coin slots second so that they actually 1-up the games, but the lights are my first priority.  Also, I'd like to do a little cosmetic work on it.

So, question 1:  What's the simplest way to hook up some lights behind the coin reject buttons so they glow?  I read sometimes about super-bright LEDs and that sort of thing, but I don't have any idea how to hook them up to either a normal old power strip or to my computer's power supply.  I'm sure there's a topic on this somewhere, but this board's search function is not so helpful sometimes.  ::)

Question 2:  How do I learn how the coin mechs work?  What do I connect to what in order to make them trigger stuff in Mame?  (I use a Keywiz, btw.)

Question 3:  The right hand coin reject has an ugly black sticker on it that says "Tokens only."  I'd like to remove this and just see the original 25c thing.  I imagine this sticker won't come off easily, so I thought of just replacing the coin reject.  Is this possible?  What do I order from Happ or whoever?  It's all one piece (slot and reject button) if that helps at all.  I can post pics later.

Remember, I have no electrical experience at all.  I don't even own a soldering iron.  But I can learn!  So if it's challenging, that's okay with me.

Thanks in advance.

I also just bought a coin door off Ebay and got it hooked up very easily after reading and watching the video on this site.
