New Google ads!
« on: March 24, 2004, 02:07:24 pm »
I was just suprised to see ads on the site.  I'm certainly not arguing with them, but when did this come to pass?

Just spotted them myself.  Have to start scrolling down more now.  Wonder how they'd look on the right side instead?

No way, it's knock the whole site off.  It's fine with me, it was just suprising.

I'm of the opinion that it's a good thing.

Targeted and relevant links for the community, modest amount of revenue for Saint to pay for server.. win/win =)

*shrug* of course I've already sold out on my site...

it's not that obtrusive... you used to have scroll down the same for the "other sites forums" section that USED to be there (back in the day, before it was thankfully moved to a separate static section)

I for one welcome our new google adwords overlords.

Heh, you guys beat me to the punch. I'm experimenting. Nothing placement wise or color wise is permanent. I hate the way it looks on the main page right now. I think it looks ok on the message forums. I removed the "Don't miss the rest of the web site!" section on the template, so the scroll should be almost exactly the same.

I've just heard too many good things about the results of using Google Adsense not to try it. I'm hoping to be able to take down the donations link and have the site pay for itself completely.

I will never ever put a pop up ad on BYOAC. I'll gather aluminum cans first.

OK - so, comments on placement, colors, etc..., love the idea, hate the idea, don't give a patootie... alll welcome!

Fine with me.  The google ads have never struck me as being obnoxious.   I like the colors you have on it now; blends in nicely.  If it helps pay for the site, I vote for it.

Note- I did use the link back to the main site every couple days, as I bookmark the main forum directly.

what if yoy made better use of the

BYOAC Forums
Main Forum  Buy/Sell/Trade  Software Forums
Everything Else  Board Discussion  Monitor/Video
Audio/Jukebox/MP3  Artwork  Project Announcements
Consoles  Project Arcade - the book!
  OTHER SITES' FORUMS
part and made it more compact to where it would fit nicely along with the ads?
it would save spacew to where it was near --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type-- the ads was added ;)

I don't mind it. Google ads are pretty tasteful, I would just move it to the top of the page or under where it says:

Rules | Old Boards | Old Archives | BYOAC People Finder (USA) | Chatroom

others it is fine with me.

My two cents:

It kinda bothers me up near the top of the page...  I think I would like it better at the bottom.

Overall, doesn't bother me all that much, just as long as its not a pop-up...  ;D

I don't think you should move them at all, anywhere else and I think it would disrupt the routine of how people get to the information they're used to looking for.

I do think it would look a little better if it were the same color as everything else though.

Oh, and I don't know if it's just me, but I can't click on them.  Well I can click on them, it just doesn't do anything.  I even turned of norton personal firewall and ems free surfer and still nothing.  Maybe it's the firewall on my router?
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Usually, the BYOAC board gets a small percentage if the person who clicked the link purchases something from the linked company.

Thanks for the comments everyone!  Still testing / playing with the idea. For the record, Google will pay me for the click on the ad. It doesn't matter if you buy something from the ad or not.

They're not overly intrusive, they blend well with the board (I had thought you changed the board setup and it was a post, to be honest, until I happened to look closer! Kudos on blending it), and they are VERY specifically targeted, considering the audience of this board.

Now, what board do I go for to get breast/penile enhancements?  I can't seem to find ANYTHING for something like that! ::) ;D

Doesn't bother me :)
No flash, no animation, no popups, reasonably well targeted content-wise, and it helps pay for the site.
