UPDATE: Took inventory, sheesh!
« on: March 22, 2004, 05:37:02 pm »
Ok, just went hog wild ordering parts for three different projects. I can't believe I ordered $400 in arcade parts in one week, and STILL need to order from Oscar when he reopens his store.

10 rectangle light up buttons (to make my Stepmania panel)
3 8-way top fires (Groovygamegear)
A pair of NOS Wico microleafs.
a groovygamegear 4-way
3 Ms. Pac/Reunion 4-ways
10 red buttons
10 black buttons
7 blue buttons
Some start buttons
a couple of keywhiz MAXs.
The upgrade kit for my Imperical trackball.
Set of cabinet corner protectors.
TEN 15 position molex connector kits.
3 sets of PCB mounting feet.
2 wiring kits

To go along with ALL that. I also have
I-pac.
Couple dozen other buttons.
pair of Robotron leaf switch Wicos with new handles.
New 3" Betson/Imperial trackball with mounting plate.
2 analog baseball sticks.
Metal base "universal" 4-way
One mechanical rotary stick.
Pair of 49 ways.
Sega Spinner assembly.
Single Wico top fire (leaf)
Other stuff I am forgetting.

Now, what am I doing with all of it?

Two of the Reunion sticks, and one keywhiz are going into a cocktail.

The groovygamegear 4-way, one groovy top fire, 4 buttons, I-Pac, and an Oscar spinner are going in a Mame for a customer.

ALL the rest can be used on swappable panels for my Defender Mame.

So far it has a Defender layout panel on it, and I specially ordered buttons to make a Stepmania panel (dual "Pump" layout).

That leaves A LOT of controls for other panels.

Specifically.
Pair of Robotron sticks.
Pair of Wico microleaf.
Pair of groovy top fires
Pair of 49-ways
Pair of analog baseball sticks
Ms. Pac 4-way
Universal 4-way
Sega spinner.
3" trackball
Wico topfire.

I personally can't even THINK of how to use all of them without duplication. So any suggestion as to how to lay these bad boys out on multiple panels? Assume I have unlimited buttons.

1. Attach each item onto a padded 4x8 sheet of MDF. You can lay on it and attempt to play 6 games at once through a series a convulted flopping motions. You'd be surprised how many of my friends attempt to play Robotron in a simliar fashion.

2. Attach the leftover controls at various points of likely entry in your home and string twine around them. Wire them all to your IPAC and watch the monitor through terminal services from work. If you see the character "A" pop up on notebook, call the cops man, they just stole your stereo.

3. Make a Mame cabinet large enough to stomp Tokyo into a smoldering wasteland.

Let me know if you need more suggestions.

Follow these few steps, and all your problems will be solved:

1)  Find a nice sturdy box.
2)  Place parts inside gently.
3)  Fill empty space with styrafoam peanuts.
4)  Tape box closed.
5)  Ship to Haruman!

Perhaps:

Panel #1:
Spinner & Topfire

Panel #2:
Trackball, analog stick, 4-way

Panel #3:
Dual sticks

I can't help wondering why you have all this stuff if you don't know what to do with it?  Why not sell the lot, and then buy whatever you really want?

Bob Roberts had the NOS microleafs hidden somewhere on his website off the main page. They were $38 for a pair. I am unsure if he only had that one set, or if he has a lot of them.

They were the long handled ones, so they will work in a wood panel.

I got the analog baseball joysticks on ebay. I was buying a lot of assorted sticks from someone, searched their other auctions, saw those for $10 and snagged them. They are small, analog, and are spring loaded in one direction.

Now, as to WHY I ordered so much is this. I go through a lot of this stuff. I figured it was better to order extra now, then to pay shipping later to get one item.

Current panel ideas.

Defender (Done).
Street Fighter 2
Missile Command (Trackball)
Spinner panel with top-fire 8-way (I DO have a Blue translucent handle I could hack on).
4-way, 2 buttons.
Arch Rivals (dual 49-way).
Stepmania (ordered special buttons for this already)
Dual analog baseball panel.

Other possibilities.
Space Duel
PC Flightstick.
Insert your idea here.

Ok, I finally did a more or less complete inventory of parts.
This is ALMOST everything I have that is either laying around loose, currently in transit to me, or in a non-working machine. I am also including cabinets that are either "unfinished", non-working, or that I plan on "de-maming"

Cabinets
Amazing Maze (pulling the parts out of this and moving it into storage).

Dynamo Caberet. Has 14" VGA display, and 2.25 serial trackball with two buttons installed. It does have a 400 mhz PC inside as well. Has room on the control panel for more stuff.

Sprint 2 complete

Turbo (probably complete).

Frogger (going to customer).

Defender #2 (supposedly sold on ebay, but payment has not arrived).

Stargate (Haven't actually picked this up yet).

Magical Spot cocktail (very nice, plan on Pac-Mame).

Battlezone. No panel, no marquee, no plastic sights. Has mirror and has VGA monitor installed.

Controls.

110+ - assorted buttons (both leaf, micro and solid state, including odd types like light up gambling, Atari cone, and microleaf). I just keep finding more and more of these, grand total might be closer to 200.

2 - Joy 49-way (Orange)
2 - joyanalog (baseball type)
2 - joy8way leaf - midway 70s style
2 - joy8way leaf - Monroe, one long handle, one short
2 - joy8way - wico microleaf, NOS
3 - joy4way - Ms Pac Reunion stick.
2 - joy2way - tiny, black
5 - joy4way - assorted
1 - joy8wayrotary - leaf, mechanical
2 - joy8way - Wico, long handles, rebuilt, new handles
1 - Defender joystick (needs rebuild).
1 - 4 speed shifter
1 - Tac/Scan spinner assembly
132 - assorted spare microswitches
1 - 3" PS2 trackball with plate and upgrade kit (new)
9 - extra joystick bases (mostly wico, both types).
5 - extra handles, mostly Wico, 4 red, one black.
1 - Pot based spinner.
3 - joy8waytopfire (new).
1 - Oscar spinner (new)
1 - joy8waytopfire (wico)
15 - Assorted PC controls suitable for arcade hackery.

Other.
2 - 21" PC monitors (used).
1 - 19" PC monitor).
2 - 14-15" PC monitors (used).
3 - 19" arcade monitors (working)
2 - 13" arcade monitors (not working)
20+ - overlays, marquees, sidearts, and other assorted artworks.

I also just keep finding stuff. It seems like every drawer, and every box has some extra button, forgotten joystick, or other arcade part in it.

http://cgi.aol.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3284212421&category=13718 Here's a pair of nos Wico microleafs for alot less then Bob wants for them. (Bob usually does have the best prices though) I love these sticks so much that I just bought another pair. Now I have three pairs for future projects.  They feel almost exactly the same as the leafswitch versions, they're nos, alot cheaper and less stressful then trying to win bidding wars for decent leafswitch versions. :P

It's a Wico stick with microswitches and a rubber grommet (that feels like a leaf stick)

They also use the exact same handles as the original Wico sticks.

There DO appear to be two different styles of microleaf bases. One style looks nearly identical to the original Wico bases, while the other style actually DOES NOT have a rubber grommet (spring instead), but still feels pretty much identical. These can be identified by the round section in the middle of the base, as opposed to the off-center rectangle on regular Wico sticks.

Doh ! I screwed up. That 2nd Ebay link I posted is not a microswitch aka microleaf stick. Its a regular Wico leafswitch stick (as I'm sure you guys already figured out)  The first link are the ones I'm talking about. They are an excellant alternative to the leafswitch versions.

is this another one of those 'look at all the cool stuff I have that you don't'  posts by Paige...

Although I am jealous of all the misc. parts... I currently have 4 gutted cabinets sitting in my garage that need some love...
