Speaker grilles
« on: March 19, 2004, 03:41:06 pm »
First of all, does "grilles" have an e?  "Grills" just doesn't look right.

I went to Radio Shack today expecting to pick up a couple of speaker grilles for my cabinet, only to discover they no longer carry them (according to the guy there).  So where else can I find speaker grilles?  I'm not looking for anything special.  I've got two 3 - 1/2 inch holes cut in the top panel of my cab just waiting to be finished with a speaker grill each.  What's a good source?

Thanks!

I was told Radio Shack is getting out of the speaker business altogether.   I got my speakers and grills from Radio Shack during their tremendous sale prices to clear their shelves.

Anyway, I would go to a local stereo installation shop (ie: where they put in new car stereo, speakers, etc..) and ask for any old speaker grills they have lying around.   Think about it..... when they install new speakers in a car, they use the new grills as well ..... where do the old speaker grill go .... in the garbage ?

I didn't have much luck finding small speaker grills so I used some PC fan grills.

I didn't know what size I needed so I bought 80mm and 92mm.  The 80mm is about 4 inches from screw hole to screw hole and 3 inches for the part that covers the hole.  The 92mm is about 4.5 inches to from screw hole and 3.5 for the middle part.

I picked up some grills from the following site.  I don't know how he makes money sending two grills for $2.08 plus shipping, but they look great!
