The ones I can recall are:

1/64"   = .015625
1/32"   = .03125
1/16"   = .0625
1/8"     = .125
1/4"     = .25
5/16"   = .3125
3/8"     = .375
7/16"   = .4375
1/2"     = .5
9/16"   = .5625
5/8"     = .625
11/16" = .6875
3/4"     = .75
13/16" = .8125
7/8"     = .875
15/16" = .9375

There's a calculator in Windows under accessories if ya need something obscure. :)

when in doubt just divide the top number into the bottom
 ;D

so 7/16 would be
7 divided by 16 = .4375

if they just told us this in high school we wouldnt be slaves to conversion charts..

Going the other way is what the conversion charts are good for.

In theory you can do this -

0.75 = 75/100 (seventy-five one-hundredths) and 5 goes into both 100 and 75 so it's also 15/20, and 5 goes into both of those, so it's really 3/4's.

FWIW

1/16 = 0.0625. Get a calculator and divide your decimal measurement by 0.0625, then that is the number of 1/6ths. From there reduce the fraction to what you want.

For example 0.4375 / 0.0625 = 7. So it is 7/16
                    0.75     / 0.0625 = 12. So it is 12/16 or 3/4

Or even easier, instead of dividing by 1/16th, multiply by 16.  Same result.

Ok, he wants to go the other direction.  If 16ths is as close as he needs he can use this chart to estimate.
