Street Fighter VS XMEN JAMMA question
« on: March 14, 2004, 11:27:25 am »
Hey guys,
Ive got a Street Fighter: The Movie JAMMA Arcade machine ( http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=S&game_id=9829 ) and was thinking about putting another game-board inside the machine and was wondering if I could put a Street Fighter VS XMEN one in? According to KLOV ( http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=X&game_id=10497 ) it says its Conversion Class is: "Capcom CPS II - JAMMA" what does that "Capcom CPS II" mean? Would I be able to stick that in my machine?

As long as both boards are JAMMA you should be able to just swap the game boards.

The CPS II refers to the class of board.  Like MVS, Neo Geo, etc, just the type of board.

Now, whether or not you have enough buttons or the right kind of harness to connect the other buttons outside of the JAMMA standard is another story.

ah.. well.. my SF:TM machine has 6 buttons and 1 joystick per player... as does SF VS XMEN so would I be able to just simply pull the old board out and just plug one or two connectors in? or this there more work that needs to be done? Also:  if I bought a new game that used only 4 buttons, if I simply just unpluged any 2 buttons, would that work? or is it a certain two on the board id need to unplug? thanks!!!

Having more buttons on the CP than the game uses is not a problem.  They will be connected to pins on the new PCB that don't do anything.

However, if your game uses more than 3 buttons they may be wired differently.  JAMMA boards handle the extra buttons differently. Many have extra harness wires for the buttons above 3. Technically, JAMMA can handle 5 without any extra wiring, but the standard is 3. So, it will depend on the boards you are using and how they wire the extra buttons.
