Galaga Enduring Freedom
« on: November 24, 2025, 09:42:39 pm »
Hello.  I recently saw this really, really awesome version of Galaga at this laundromat that I was at.  It was called Galaga Enduring Freedom.  In the game, the aliens are replaced by terrorists, and it has a picture of Osama Bin Laden on the title screen.  Well, I was wondering if anyone in this forum would, by any chance, happen to have the ROM for that game that I could download.  I would like to play the game on my computer using MAME.  Thx.

That's a fun looking Galaga hack.

Unfortunately, we can't help you with where to find/download the ROMs because of Rule 5.

The emulator you need to run this game is called HBMAME --  a fork of MAME that covers the homebrews and hacks that are not part of mainline MAME.
http://hbmame.1emulation.com/ - latest release
https://www.progettosnaps.net/hbmame/ - older releases

Robbbert announced that "galagaef" was added to MisfitMAME in v0.128.B. (March 20, 2011)
https://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Number=249430

MisfitMAME later became HBMAME and "galagaef" has been in there since at least v0.151.
https://www.progettosnaps.net/hbmame/list/gamelist_151.txt

The easiest way to get this running on your system is find a relatively recent, known version number HBMAME ROMset. i.e. "HBMAME v0.245.12 ROMset", not one that only tells you how many games are in the set.
- Once you have the known version ROMs, download the matching version of HBMAME.

If you find a merged HBMAME ROMset, the "galagaef" files will be inside the "galaga.zip" file.
- Like you do with MAME ROMs, put the ROM .zip files in the "hbmame\roms\" folder without extracting them.   ;D
