MAME hooker with PAC drive, solenoid locked on
« on: October 22, 2025, 03:44:15 pm »
Hi

Hoping someone can help me please?

I'm use Revolution X guns with an A PAC for gun movement and a PAC drive (connected to a DC/DC SSR) for the gun recoil, but as soon as the computer powers up, the gun solenoid is activated and starts to heat up, as its locked on.

attached is how I've wired it up (PAC drive is wired to pin 1 and the +). MAME Hooker is detecting the gun firing!

Any ides why this isn't working?

PAC-DRIVEs can be stateful.  Meaning, if you don't have something telling it to "turn off", it stays on so long as there is power to it.

On my driving cab, I specifically have to make sure LEDBlinky "turns off the lights" before I shut the cabinet (computer) down, otherwise they'll stay on all the time - due to having constant power.

Mamehooker isn't detecting anything if mame isn't running yet.   Your pac-drive probably turns every output on at startup.   You might need to use an inverse signal to drive your solenoid or have a switch installed to keep the solenoids switched off until the pc boots.
