  • When I die, I want to go to arcade heaven!
Hi,
I have a Turbo Twist II spinner hooked up to a Pico Wiz board. Just purchased a Ultimarc U-Trak Trackball and am looking to hook it up also to the Pico Wiz. Can anyone help me out on where I connect it on the board, the specific pins? I'm not needing the mouse buttons, just looking to get the trackball movements working. Any help is truly appreciated. I don't want to fry anything if I can help it. :)

Hard to tell anything from the photo you posted (board markings are not readable, spinner knob might be blocking input pins), but here's a related thread and photo.

From this angle, you can see the 5v markings on the two near pins and the data lines connected to two of the far pins.

Looks like a problem you might run into is the number of opto data line inputs. (only 4 instead of 6?)
- Unlike microswitch controls, you can't piggyback optical data lines for the spinner X-axis and the trackball X-axis.
- If the PicoWiz has Z-axis inputs like the old Opti Wiz, you can put the spinner on Z-axis and the trackball on X- and Y-axis.
- Based on the pattern of the visible markings, X-axis data lines might be A and B (yellow and green wires), Y-axis data lines might be C and D, and Z-axis data lines might be E and F.

Otherwise, you might need an OptiWiz3.

- Put the spinner data lines on pins 5 and 6 for X-axis (X-axis autoswitches between trackball and spinner based on which one is being used) or 3 and 4 for Z-axis.
- Put the trackball X-axis data lines on pins 9 and 10 and the Y-axis data lines on pins 7 and 8.

Pinout for the new OptiWiz3:

Scott
EDIT: Found a better image for the OptiWiz Pico markings here in B/S/T -- it confirms my earlier suspicions.
