How much is my custom 4 player MAMe cabinet worth?
« on: March 09, 2004, 01:36:29 pm »
I built my cabinet about 1 1/2 years ago.  It includes a 4-player control panel layout.
4 Happs Universal joysticks, 28 Pushbuttons with horizontal microswitches, all four "player" buttons, a IPAC-4 to hook it all up, 2 hacked PSX controllers so I can use my arcade controls on a PSX/PS2.

Players 1 and 2 are wired to a female 25-pin D-SUB.
Players 1 and 2 input on the IPAC 4 are wired to a 25-pin MALE
The 2 PSX controllers are wired to a 25-pin MALE
(So you can switch between the IPAC and PSX controllers)

The cabinet was built from lusids design and is made from 3/4" particleboard  and was painted black.  I never found time to build a marquee so there's just an empty spot where it should be.
The front of the cabinet is also hinged so there is quick access to the insides of the cabinet.

I would be selling the Control panel and the cabinet.  No monitor/tv nor is there a PC included.

The control panel is wired all correctly but it doesn't look professional at all.  This cabinet would be a great beginners project that you could work at to perfection.

Check out these pictures and tell me what you guys think.
Thanks!!!

The pictures are all too dark and blurry for me to be able to tell anything from them. You might take some more under better lighting conditions.

If you had a better bezel (is that painted cardboard?) and a marquee you'd probably get more money. To be honest, I wouldn't pay more than $200 for the cabinet w/ CP, assuming that the CP is complete + functional.

Truthfully, you would be better off financially if you simply stripped out all your arcade parts and kept them for your next project, and then just listed the empty cabinet for $1 on ebay.

An incomplete Mame cabinet isn't worth very much. ESPECIALLY not one made out of particle board.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I agree with Paige but I wouldn't even bother selling on ebay.  Not worth the hassle.  Strip out the arcade parts and PC.  See if a neighbor wants the cabinet or leave it by the curb with a sign that says 'Any offer'.  It appears you only have like $20 worth of wood in it, a piece of scrap cardboard and a couple dollars of paint so no big loss.  The controller is where all your money is at right now and those parts will move nicely into your new cabinet.  Consider this first cabinet practice.

Yeah it is pretty ghetto.

After I "finished" it I kept on beating myself up because it looked so bad.

Yeah I think I might take everyones advice and sell the CP parts individually on ebay or something.

Thanks alot I appreciate it.

Like everyone else says, keep your CP stuff. Or else you'll be buying it all again. Donate the cab to someone.
