I-Pac Ultimate - can't get P3/P4 working? (SOLVED)
« on: December 09, 2024, 12:04:40 pm »
Hello all -- I'm hoping I'm overlooking something really silly with this.

I just got done building my dream arcade cabinet.  I went with all Ultimarc parts for the controls because Andy comes very highly recommended.  I got everything wired up and went to WinIPAC 2 to setup the buttons.  I'm using an iPac Ultimate IO board, firmware 1.56, in a 4 Player configuration with no trackball or spinner (I have a trackball, but it's hooked up with a separate USB interface).

I'm using Retrobat for the emulation package.  I initially tried using the keyboard mode with the IPAC UIO, but couldn't figure out how to get P2-P4 assigned.  I learned how to swap modes on the IPAC UIO and got it swapped into XInput preset, and was able to get P1 and P2 fully setup and working.  However, when I tried to assign buttons to P3 and P4 in WinIPAC, there's no option in the dropdown for P3 or P4.  When I go back into Retrobat and hold down a P3/P4 button to assign the controller, nothing happens.

Is there some kind of setting I'm missing to get WinIPAC to let me assign P3/P4 buttons/sticks via XInput?  Or is there a way in Retrobat/ES for me to you the keyboard, but assign four different controls from the one keyboard?

Thanks in advance for any help!

DrHogie, Will be watching this post as I also have a Retrobat setup that I eventually want to turn into an arcade. I have an older Retrobat version but also found it only allows for a single keyboard so no way to set up player 2-4. I'm surprised the xinput setting for iPacs doesn't allow for player 3-4. Maybe contact Andy for a solution.

Does the iPac ultimate support 3/4 players through Xinput? I have an iPac 4 that apparently supports 3/4 players through Xinput because of a firmware update, but I haven't tried it yet.

You are absolutely correct!  I emailed Andy and he told me the UIO only supports 2 player via XInput.

Also, I found out that if the UIO is in XInput, it cannot perform any LED configuration either.  This was disappointing because I misread and assumed the “ultimate” board would be able to handle 4 player plus LEDs.  I have ordered an IPAC 2 that I’m going to use to run P3/P4 separately (which I’m having issues with that as well — but that’s another thread).

Thanks for the help!
