Sinden Lightgun Wide Angle Lens Test
« on: August 02, 2024, 09:26:00 am »
Video available here:

This is a test I did of trying a wide angle lens in front of a Sinden Lightgun.

I wanted to know if it was possible to put a lens on a Sinden and I hadn't ever seen someone talk about that. I eventually found a reddit thread ( https://www.reddit.com/.../ultra_wide_lens_and_fisheye/ ) where someone mentioned they did this and I wanted to try it myself as I'd like to play close to my monitor from my desk chair. I had some IR guns but the IR is a problem that close. These ones also came with fisheye lenses but that wasn't enough.

This video is showing holding the lens by hand, it still needs to be attached to the Sinden. First the screen is recorded from the camera view in the Sinden and then the lens is moved in front to show the difference it makes visually.

Then the Sinden software is loaded with the white border and the tracking is shown from the same position. The tracking cuts out when pointing toward the corners of the screen. There is a blue box in the black and white camera view which can be seen cutting out and the mouse pointer freezes.

Then the lens is added and the tracking is fixed, the blue box stays on while pointing around the corners of the screen.

I don't know how close my lens matches theirs, I got it from Amazon Australia. I've still got to affix the lens to the front and the original thread suggested hot glue and I think they then taped it up. But I'm pretty confident now that it's going to work.
