Are there any games that "require“ two 4 way joysticks?
« on: November 12, 2023, 01:41:04 pm »
Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone could help compile a comprehensive list of any games that would require two 4 way joysticks. Essentially, are there any games where two players play simultaneously and both would need 4 way controls.

I wasn’t able to think of any. I was going to include 2 four way joysticks just to be safe but I am starting to think that it isn’t really necessary as there might not be any games that would benefit from it.

Thanks for any help!

Karate Champ uses two four way joysticks per player so four total.

There are a few Namco roms that allow you to play 2 player classics at once (Pac-Man, Dig Dug) and I suppose some day we'll get to play PacMan Battle Royale.

Took a minute, but I found it:

There was also the Ms. Pac-Man hack Twin Ms. Pac-Man that allowed two player simultaneous play.

If you want to play Tetris with your wife and not be forced to use the 8 way stick because eve though she does not know crap about arcade stuff she knows, "That one is stupid". Might be good for that. Helps with Mario Bros. also.

I did a few advanced searches on KLOV for games listed as having least 2 simultaneous players and a 4-way and this is what it came up with. I am 100% positive that this list is not entirely accurate as I removed several titles that I know actually use 8-ways but you can explore these and see if they truly benefit from a 4-way.
