Linux OS

What would be the preferred Linux OS for building a PC (not Raspberry Pi) retro game cabinet?  I am planning on running Attract Mode with MAME 0.251

The computer is a somewhat old Dell desktop box.  When it still had Windows 10 installed on it, I was able to run NFL Blitz 2000 with no stutters or issues.

Did you want to make it yourself, because there is a lot of pre-made ISOs that use Linux, ready to write to your boot drive?

You can go with something like ubuntu or popos, then install mame and attract mode   Either a easy to get up and running.

If you like an emulation station frontend Batocera is a nice PC based Linux OS focused on emulation.  I have it installed on an Alienware Alpha R2 for console emulation, but it could be used for just mame.
