How to label buttons???
« on: February 29, 2004, 01:45:22 pm »
My question is:

Is there a *good* way to put actual labels, physically, on the buttons?  What I want is to have my admin buttons labeled, saying "menu", "quit", "pause", etc. on top of each button (kinda like how the "1P" and "2P" buttons have labels on them).

I was thinking decals might be good, but I have no idea where I can get the whole alphabet in decal form.

When I was at wal*mart the other day I saw a product that was for printing decals for models and such.  I have no idea what it was called but it was in a package about 3"x5" and it said something about inkjet and decals on it.  I'm also pretty sure it was under $10, other than that I don't know what to tell ya.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Models use water slide decals that scrape off very easily. This probably wouldn't be the best solution.

Stingray's right.

Beldecal.com (http://www.beldecal.com/model_decals.cfm) has resources and info for printing these types of decals.  They even have the paper for printing decals using inkjet printers.

The main problem here, though is you can't do white text for decals (I believe an Alps printer is needed here).   I'm sure you could check around model builders' sites for more info.
There's no such thing as junk!

Or perhaps you need a Casio Labeler that can use white on clear label tape?
Brother also makes labelers that use many different colors of label tape and ink.

Thanks for the replies guys.

D'oh, I remember using these for little models years ago but I wasn't sure of the "wear and tear" of these.  Thanks for that info.

crashwg & nuttman:  Thanks for that info.  I wasn't aware of being able to print your own.  If this works out, this may be something big (for me).......

justmichael:  I totally forgot about using a labeler.  This will definitely solve my problem so I will definitely use this if the inkjet decals don't work out.

Thanks guys for the replies!!!!

If all else fails, then the "identification tags" from HappControls are not a bad alternative.   Go to www.happcontrols.com and click Amusements, click PushButtons and then scroll down until you see them.

Someone here in the forums use to send out some vinyl ones he used to get printed with left over vinyl from his family's printing shop. Not sure if he is doing that anymore. I sure could use some as well.
