GRS DOT PUSH PULL SPINNER
« on: January 22, 2022, 10:22:43 am »
I just purchased the GRS DOT PUSH PULL SPINNER.
So far it is great !  Very easy to install.
My only gripe I wish the USB cable was longer to drop down in the bottom of my cab to my PC. But I made it work.
I was playing Discs of Tron last night and on the Push Pull Levels.
I could only seem to aim down.
Anyone have any experience with this spinner ?
Does is work for DOT right out of the box?
Or do I need to configure something in Mame ?
Thanks so much !

You probably need to go into mame settings for dot and set the controls up

How big is this? Does it fit into a standard arcade button hole?

Yes button hole size.
It fit in the existing spinner hole of my Tron cab.
My problem is in the chaos gameplay of DOT I can't tell if the aim / push pull is functioning correctly

Pretty sure the push and pull functions are left and right mouse buttons.
- You can confirm if they are functioning in Windows or just remap the "Aim Down" and "Aim Up" DOT controls in MAME.

Ok so I made it back to the push pull levels here's what's definitely going on.  PULL UP makes the aim do down.  PUSH DOWN throws discs just like the trigger, and the joystick makes the aim go up every time I move Tron forward.

Sounds like a mapping issue.

Have you tried to hit tab with the game running and see what is going on in there?

Honestly i haven't fooled with Mame in years far as button mapping anyway.  I had forgotten it was that easy. I am going to try it today.
Thanks !

Well... apparently it isn't that easy.  I got into the settings and tried to assign the push pull to buttons 4 and 5. No Dice !  Won't take them. 😑

Damn.
I was hoping it would be something simple for you.
Maybe that spinner is trying to use moust button presses and it is confusing things for what you want?

Must be some setup bit somewhere that dictates what is what.

I finally got the spinner to work for me in Discs of Tron (push pull feature) I originally had a pentium 3 running XP in my cabinet. It worked great for what I was using it for.

Until I purchased the GRS DOT SPINNER. So I ditched that setup... I had a busted screen laptop lying around  so I decased it and mounted it to a cutting board. I installed windows 10 and a newer version of Mame.

Now the Spinner works perfectly with Discs of Tron.
But it was still a pain in the ass to map the Aim up and Aim down in Discs of Tron.  Actually it never would, I had to use a regular mouse to get the mapping done.

My thoughts..... The Spinner is great and heavy duty!
It works well when you get it going. For me that was the hard part.
At least the (Push Pull Feature)
