Pac Man midway joystick first 3k different?

I picked up a fairly decent Pac Man cab recently that was converted to Jr Pac Man and I have been taking it apart to clean and restore. In the operators manual it mentions that the first 3000 cabs had a different joystick shaft, I'm assuming the ball is different somehow. I did some quick searches and found nothing about this. Does anyone have any info? Thank you.
