Lost Galaga Key :(
« on: August 22, 2021, 12:16:36 am »
I have a 1981 Galaga Upright cabinet and I 'know' the key is somewhere in the apartment but I had to move and cannot for the life of me find it.

I believe the cabinet still has original locks as the key I had looked like those double sided Fort 7/8 keys I have seen online (attached image is an example pic), and the one key opened the front coin box and the back access panel.

Does anyone know where I could buy a replacement key, or a good short term fix to get in until I find the key?

I am trying to not have the locks drilled or something else destructive as the cabinet is in very good condition and I don't want to remove original components.

Get a rake lock pick or grind one out.  I made one from the strip of metal in an old wiper blade.  You’ll open that lock in 10 seconds.  Remove the old locks and replace with new ones.

I bought a cheap lock pick set on Amazon. I gave it to my son. He was opening up my cabs within ten minutes of learning to use the picks.

Ahhh... I thought it would be a hard lock to pick as it is keyed on 2 sides.

Eureka!!!!! Found it.
Had been looking for weeks.

Going to place this on a massive keychain so it doesn't get lost again.

Now I can look into the power supply issues.

Convert to a switching power supply?

I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

The key was in the little spare change jar that I had checked twice already. No idea how it folded itself out of our dimension the previous 2 times I checked... but it was there this time.

Also likely going to keep the existing power supply, just repair it if needed. I only turn it on when I play so it isn't like it is being left on for weeks. Plus I prefer to keep it as original as possible.
