  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Magstick Plus Joysticks Installation
« on: August 10, 2021, 12:05:10 am »
It's been a good five or six years since I started building my arcade cabinet due to family commitments and life in general and I'm ready to finish it off finally now but in that time I've forgotten how I planned to mount th Joysticks. I can't remember if I was going to bottom or top mount the Joysticks. My control panel is 16mm MDF with 3mm plexiglass with the artwork sandwiched inbetween.

Not sure if I should route the top to place the Joysticks baseplate or have the baseplate routed and fitted from underneath the control panel?

If you aren't using a metal mounting plate to sit on top (under your artwork) then you want to rout out the bottom side.
If you leave any less mdf than 7-8mm or so you may have problems with panel flex.
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools! I can fix it.
