Optipac Problem???
« on: February 25, 2004, 08:06:02 am »
I've got an Ipac/Optipac combo, and my optical controls are a Happs 3in high lip trackball and a Oscar Pro spinner.  I hooked all of the controls up as per instructions on Ultimarc.com.

My test computer is a Dell Inspiron 8200 2.4ghz notebook.  I should also probably note this is the Serial version of the OptiPac.

Windows detects the mouse fine, then something freaky happens.  The mouse pointer jumps all over the screen and starts randomly right clicking.. I try to grab control with the mouse I have plugged into the USB port, but it becomes uncontrollable and I have to unplug the serial cable.  Moving the trackball/spinner has no apparent effect.  The pointer continues to jump around the screen.

Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening?  I double checked the connections and everything *looked* ok.  I guess I could have a crossed wire, but wouldn't that only make it so when I moved the trackball in a direction it'd go the wrong way?!  HELP!!  :(

Have you tried having the optipac plugged in on it's own - no trackball or spinner connected?  Also then try it with just the trackball, and then just the spinner.  Let's try and find out where this problem might be coming from.

OK.. First I disconnected the spinner.. When moving the trackball, I got the same problem..  I then disconnected the trackball.  The 2 buttons wired to the optipac responded at this point.  I then went back and hooked up just the spinner.. (with the buttons hooked up).. same problem..

I then hooked up just the spinner (no buttons)..
Same problem.

It seems neither the trackball or spinner will work.  The JP1/JP2 is set to JP1, and both A/HI A/LO jumpers are set to low.

Any ideas on this?

Thanks!

Please forgive the obvious question but have you emailed Andy about the problem?
