Very nice. And his update has an interesting tease at the end...

"I will aim to make further improvements to CannonBall beyond these in the coming months. There is plenty of work still to be done, which won't result in anything exciting from a feature-set perspective. There is also an unending array of features I can dream of."

Can you imagine some sort of hack that allows for 8-player online multiplayer similar to OR2 , but for original outrun? That'd be BONKERS!!!

Interesting, I've only just seen this post. I'm hoping he might incorporate some of the features from his OUTRUN: ENHANCED EDITION original OutRun arcade hardware additions, in particular the new music. Multiplayer would be an incredible addition, but I suspect it may be a bit beyond the scope of the project. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though...

About the only thing I would want would be custom sprite and music options so that we can make our own games using the engine.    A daytona demake might be fun.
