  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hello, I have a few different size Hammond sloped aluminum consoles that I'm in the process of building a Stargate control panel with first. Here are the console specs...

Aluminum cases 0.081” (2 mm) thick aluminum. Aluminum top panel sizes to 14” wide are 0.064” thick aluminum. Larger sizes are 0.081” thick.

Rake, Width x Depth x Rear Height x Front Height
---
15°, 10.00", 11.30", 3.00", 1.30"
15°, 14.00", 11.30", 3.00", 1.30"
15°, 17.00", 11.30", 3.00", 1.30"
15°, 20.00", 11.30", 3.00", 1.30"

Now that those specs are cleared out of the way...

What I'm trying to figure out is which buttons make the most since. What I want is a close to real game feel as I can get. I know this is the best place on the net to ask. Hence why I'm over here.

I'm not new to the hobby but at the same time I'm not even close to button expert. So if you wanted a leaf setup on a metal control panel what would you run with?

Thanks

Not quite sure what you're asking ..depth of buttons ...type of buttons ...concave or convex ..I assume Stargate had original concave happ style buttons if that's what you're asking...

Yep your right I didn't add everything the thread needed. My bad...

The height of the console in the front is 1.30" and I am worried I won't have enough room for the original happ leaf buttons depth wise. After looking all over the net there doesn't seem to be a solve for the issue as all the other buttons are pretty much the same depth.

Im working on a solve for this by moving the buttons and joystick higher up on the console. Probably taking P1 & P2 and placing them on the top and to the right in a Robo config. While I'm at it I'm thinking about adding the two Robotron joysticks now on top. However the left Robo joystick will be inline with the lower Defender & Stargate joystick I think. So I still need to work out the distance between those two different setups width wise. If that makes sense and what I'm willing to move joystick wise inward or outward so I don't interfere with the lower d/s joystick.

I'm thinking of taking a full Stargate CPO and basically cutting off the bottom and extending the top with the Robo design. This way the box will have a mashup cpo of Robo & Stargate.

I sure hope yawl can understand all that. My wife said no one will... Laughed and rolled out on me.

What about Ultimarc Goldleaf buttons?

They are about 1.36" from the bottom of bezel (top of the control panel) to the lowest point on the button.

Yep I think those are the best buttons atm. Not because of the length tho. The length based on my google-fu is right around the same as a short Wico's. They won't fit down in the front part of that sloped console. However with me pushing the whole deal up further towards the top I should be able to get either in that enclosure. The main reason I like those is I don't need to buy actual leaf's and I get to save some money. I hope they feel like the old Wico's.
