I don't see anything wrong with posting non-vector files.
I think they should be kept separate, however. If we allow non-vector stuff, It should only be high-quality, hi-res printable art.
As far as compression goes.... Compression can reduce quality. If you begin with a high res file, and compress it with lossy compression (JPG, MP3) you will reduce quality. Whether the end user can tell the difference is another story. If we post 6-10 mb .jpg files that started from high-res files they will be print worthy. They will be a strain on my bandwidth. I think we should make these files available as long as I have the space & the bandwidth available, though.
If we do allow it, we should do the following;
1. I should post a detailed primer / tutorial on file size, compression methods, and color
2. We should create a segregated non-vector section, with detailed instructions on what kind of files we are looking for, and the quality we expect.
As long as people understand what they are downloading, I see no harm.
