How to edit mp3 files?
« on: February 22, 2004, 11:51:05 pm »
Hello people,

If anybody knows how to edit mp3 files by filtering/removing the guitar portion of it, could you please advise? Are there any free software that could do this?

I heard that only in midi format could it be done whereby removing certain tracks to it. If yes, is there any freely available commercial software that is recommended to convert mp3 file format to midi format? And which free midi software is recommended to filter out the tracks of a piece of song?

 ???

I don't know of any free software that can do this.  There are a few commercial plugins for Cubase or maybe wavelab that are pretty good at taking out the vocals, but guitar is tough because where vocals (usually) have a limited range, guitar is much much much more versatile.

Really, to remove a guitar track properly you need the original multitrack recording...
