Spy Hunter steering wheel removal

Hey guys, I'm having trouble separating the shaft from the main body. The manual does not show the correct steering wheel (it shows the correct one in the pictures, but not on the exploded diagram). It looks like there are two pins that hold them together. Am I supposed to beat them out with a hammer? I tried whacking them a bit, but they did not budge...
