Unless the wheel shakes, this is stupid.
This forum needs more threads about Arcade 1Up cabinets.

Unless the wheel shakes, this is stupid.

I hate force feedback. always turn it off in games, with vibration.

doubt this will have it.

i'm an old man.

my problem, is that i play these racing games for hours.

vibration and feedback is a nice gimmick that works for short game,
like daytona, or sega rally, where the races are a few minutes at a time.

when you are playing tournament mode, or doing 100's of laps.

or even in virtua racing doing 20 laps in expert mode, its very fatiguing on the hands.

that's why i don't like the force feedback, or vibration, because your hands go numb after awhile.

Spoken like someone who doesn't play sega super scalers.  Most of these games can be beat in 15 minutes, 20 tops.

The top drivers on virtual racing series like iRacing don't use force feedback, but they are also not having as much fun.
It's not a driving or gaming experience for them.  :(

Exactly.... it's actually easier to play a racing game on a gamepad.... but that kind of misses the point.

I have a couple of these Arcade 1Up cabs (Star Wars and Burger Time). This one is tempting to add to the collection but I'm not sure I'm digging the design of this one. The bench is a no-go. I was able to work the other two into a nice corner of the living room, but the bench would take up too much room.

What is the best value?

Starwars 1Up with controller mod and this Pedal

Outrun 1Up with eventual mod?

Dropping $499 for some in this economy is a lot, and storage space for even a 1Up can be a deciding factor.

Here's the thing.... a star wars yoke and a racing wheel are two different things and should be priced accordingly.  The only people that make yokes these days are hobby enthusiasts and the cheapest you are going to get one is $150.
On the other hand a low end wheel without force feedback is 50 or 60 bucks.  So from my perspective at least, that outrun cabinet should be about $100 cheaper.

Also imho both the stand up and benchtop models are unplayable.  The stand up is going to be too short, even with the riser, so you'll be hunched over trying to keep your balance while working a wheel and usign pedals.  As I've previously mentioned the bench model doesn't cut a hole out to put the pedals in, so it's worthless as well.  At least with the Star Wars model feet aren't required to play the game so it doesn't matter if they are uncomfortable.

i think the target audience with the whole arcade1up series is meant to be preteens … but they don't want to play games like these.  :dunno

i think arcade1up missed their target audience and just rolling with the 40 somethings that do despite all the shortcomings.

Well with my 1up I have the riser and it was uncomfortable to play on as I am tall.  I placed it on a furniture dolly and it gave me more height to comfortable play on and I can move it better with all the crap I have inside it.  $10 for the dolly or make your own.

I know there's a stand-up model, but outside a blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot of it in the video, it's not heavily publicized, nor do I see it for sale on their site yet. (I think they're doing the "sit down" model first for now?) And if the pedals will attach the same as the sit-down (outside the cabinet, tucked), not digging that too much. Feels like they'll be trampled or tripped over.  I'm making assumptions about the final product at this point though, FWIW.

I always figured the $500 price on the Star Wars was the license costs, as the Yoke was likely obtained much cheaper than the average hobbyist would pay. They ordered in bulk and are using more inexpensive materials than the high-end ones you see.  I am wondering if the standard riser version of OutRun will come out cheaper considering a steering wheel is more generic than Atari's Yoke design.

And I have to say, I don't think the height (with the riser) is a big problem for me. I'm 6'2". I'm fine. Although I don't really play at any significant length of time either - maybe in short bursts. Although if you're taller than me then, yeah, it could prove a little painful after a while.

Yes, you young kids and your short racing games. (i'm in my late 50's)

Back in my day, we used to run hundreds of laps in our games and loved it. (ha ha)

I think i played a race in forza where i had to do a 100 laps for something, and it was a grind.

shakes fist at game...

That is a tiny little guy and he's talking about how he has trouble fitting comfortably in the cab.  That's not a good sign.

5ft 10in, is medium sized. And once he moved the 'seat' back, he said he was fine with it.

The pedals are recessed, so that's not an issue either. If he wanted to put them further into
the cabinet he could of.

He's also looking into a riser, and other adjustments.

Unless you're 6ft plus, then maybe you will just get the stand up version with the riser.
